Therapy for teens, adults, and couples
Teresa helps clients feel seen, understood and empowered.
Maybe you want to make some changes in your life but haven’t been able to do so on your own. Perhaps you’ve been feeling irritable, stressed-out, or have not been feeling like yourself and just need to talk to someone.
Or perhaps you and your partner are ready to get some help from a third party. You’re looking for action-oriented couples therapy with an experienced clinician who is both highly trained and easy to talk to.
Or you’ve tried talk therapy and it’s been helpful but you’d like to try art therapy to get out of your head and express yourself in a new way.
Teresa’s therapy approach is highly collaborative. She works with you as a team to determine what will help you find what you’re looking for. She is warm, easy to talk to, and has many years of experience helping people find more happiness.
Teresa works with you to identify areas that can improve your quality of life. In addition to traditional individual and couples therapy, she offers the opportunity to integrate art therapy projects into your work if you prefer to express yourself non-verbally.
She focuses on building the strengths you already have as well as teaching new skills.
Based on your unique needs and preferences, Teresa offers a combination of the following approaches:
Teresa believes that each individual is an expert in their own lives and has the strength and potential to create the change they want to see.
Teresa is Gottman trained and has worked in private practice, non-profit and hospital settings with individuals facing a wide range of difficulties. She is the former Director of the Kardon Center for Arts Therapy at Settlement Music School.
Teresa is trained as a Licensed Professional Counselor and graduated with a Masters in Art Therapy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has completed Level 3 Gottman Training.
Finding the right therapist can sometimes be a challenge, so the best way to proceed is to talk to your counselor before scheduling your first session to see if it’s a good fit.
Teresa Thompson, LPC, ATR-BC now has availability for individual therapy, couples therapy, and art therapy both in person and through tele-health.
