Meet Laura Silverstein

Laura Silverstein, LCSW, founder and clinical director of Main Line Counseling Partners has been a Certified Gottman Couples Therapist since 2011.

She helps couples feel happier one conversation at a time by teaching practical communication skills that make hard talks safer, calmer, and more productive.

If you’re tired of feeling like roommates, stuck in the same argument loop, or walking on eggshells, Laura might be a good fit.

As a speaker, author, trainer, she has spent 30 years learning what makes love last, and what leads to slow, steady relationship decline.

Areas of Special Interest

Laura’s therapy approach is action-oriented and highly collaborative. She works together with her clients on the following issues:

  • Conflict Resolution
  • Communication Skills Training
  • Professional Development
  • Training Couples Therapists and Small Mental Health Business Owners

Therapeutic Approaches

Laura’s motto (and the title of her book and workbook is that “Love is an action verb” (not a passive noun). She guides busy couples to revive their relationships with science-backed, action-oriented advice one conversation at a time.

She describes herself as a lifelong learner who has had the privilege to learn from renowned relational psychologists, fearless clients, readers, the team at Main Line Counseling Partners and greater Philadelphia community offering the following:

Laura is passionate about sharing what she has learned about love with as many people as she can.

Advanced Training and Professional Background

Laura earned her Bachelor’s in Social Work from Skidmore College and volunteered at a social service agency in Fiji after graduation. She received her Master of Social Work from the University of Connecticut and has been licensed in Pennsylvania since 1998.

She completed a post-graduate externship at the Philadelphia Child Guidance Training Center, founded by Dr. Salvador Minuchin, and later worked as a research clinician for Dr. John and Julie Gottman (internationally recognized for their ability to predict relationship outcomes with 90% accuracy.)

Laura completed the highest level of clinical training at The Gottman Institute, including the certification practicum with peer-reviewed video review, and is also a Certified Gottman Method Trainer.

While her success owes much to advanced education and training from the masters in the field, even more important is her ability to genuinely connect with her students and clients with her warm approachable style.

Our very own Laura Silverstein has written her first book!
