Bridging the Couple Chasm

Help couples manage conflict and deepen intimacy!

This clinical training was created by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, and will be presented by Laura Silverstein, Certified Gottman Therapist. This is the first step in learning Gottman Method Couples Therapy.

Many helping professionals feel under-prepared in their efforts to support couples in building more loving connections. It can be difficult to know what to do when an argument takes off right in front of you, sometimes before everyone has made it from the waiting room to the office. Other times couples are distant and silently hopeless. Level 1 Training will give you new insights into treatment for couples who struggle, using research-based assessments and effective interventions. You will walk away with tools in your tool chest that you can start using immediately.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

When couples enter the therapy office, they sting with pain and despair. They look to the clinician to referee chronic conflicts, fix their partners, and rebuild burned bridges. Now, based on Dr. John Gottman’s 40 years of compelling research with over 3,000 couples, there’s a practical and highly effective approach to guiding couples across the chasm that divides them.

In this workshop, you will be provided with a research-based roadmap for helping couples compassionately manage their conflicts, deepen their friendship and intimacy, and share their life
purpose and dreams. Clinicians will walk away from this workshop with a deeper understanding of what makes relationships succeed or fail, along with concrete structured interventions that they can use immediately. This training can be completed on its own, and it is also the first step toward certification in the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy for those who want to continue to deepen their specialization with couples.
