Supporting the NICU Mommy-Support Group for Mothers
Welcome, and congratulations on your newest family member!
We know that not all babies are able to come home with their families. Although you may be physically healthy, as a mother, you may be feeling a whole host of feelings, possibly even all at the same time.
- “What do I say when people ask about the birth?”
- “How can I possibly keep this baby safe and healthy on my own?”
- “How do I bond with such a fragile infant?”
- “I can’t help feeling guilty.”
- “No one seems to really understand what it’s like.”
You are Not Alone
If you are interested in gaining community support from other mothers who know what you are going through, alongside some concrete education about the unique aspects of being a NICU mother, we would love to have you join our group that is now forming. We will be touching on topics such as:
• Building community with other NICU moms
• Bonding with your fragile baby
• Coping with feelings about the delivery
• Bringing your baby home
• Your baby’s development
• Staying connected with your partner
Join other moms who know what you are going through in a 7 week support group led by Clinical Psychologist, and child specialist, Dr. Meghan Prato and Valerie Steinman. The group will combine community support with concrete education, addressing one of the following topics each group.
- Building community with other NICU Moms
- Bonding with a fragile baby
- Coping with feelings about the delivery
- Bringing baby home
- Child Development
- Staying Connected with your Partner
These topics will be covered across a 7-week span. You are welcome to attend any group you feel would be helpful to your, or all of the groups that are offered. If you are seeing this after the first group(s) have already occurred, please feel free to still register. We will be rotating the topics again and will be covering material that you may miss on later dates. Groups are currently scheduled on the following dates:
Dates: Sunday, March 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th, April 9th, 23rd, 30th
Cost: If you’d like to attend all of the groups, you can register for the full course for $300. If you’d prefer to pay for each group individually, you can do so at $45 per session.
(Please contact Dr. Prato if cost is prohibitive)
Above all else, we want you to know that you AND your babies are truly welcome here. We hope, if your baby is receiving care within the NICU, that once they “graduate” and are able to come home, they will participate in our sessions as well if you are comfortable in bringing them.
Please feel free to contact the group facilitator, Dr. Meghan Prato, Clinical Psychologist, should you have any questions or concerns. You may call or email at email@example.com or 610-642-3359 x 3, or schedule a phone consultation. Dr. Prato will call you at the time you choose below.
Thank you so much for taking the time to review this information. We truly hope that you will join us and help to establish and build a community of mutual understanding and support from mothers who know what life is like in the NICU!
